The House of Hustle stands as a transmedia platform, celebrating and amplifying the voices of the black and queer creative community. Through storytelling, it challenges societal norms, exploring the rich intersectionality of queer and black identities and questioning the spaces they occupy. The four-volume book embraces a narrow format, inviting readers into a playful and multi-orientation grid.
The images, captured exclusively by black photographers, are treated with a "multiply blending mode," adding an accentuated saturation and an "old print" aesthetic. Typography choices play a crucial role, using Editorial New for body text and Tomato Grotesk (stretched to fit the space) for highlights, symbolizing how our community has stretched and adapted to spaces often dictated by white normativity.
Beyond the book, the mission extends to building a thriving community. I crafted a cohesive visual identity, unifying all touchpoints, from social media to merchandise, website and posters, proudly presenting the House of Hustle as a collective of individuals embracing their true selves. The project was invited to participate in the Order to Chaos and Back exhibition, where the work took center stage. The House of Hustle remains committed to empowering and celebrating the black and queer creative community, challenging expectations, and creating lasting change.
All the materials, including the website developed in Webflow, were designed and produced by me (:
