As a Brazilian with a deep appreciation for Carnival, the opportunity to design the visual identity for a carnival ball in Lisbon, named "Já que sou do Pandeiro," was truly an honor. The event marked a vibrant celebration, uniting a large group of expats who are elevating Lisbon's cultural scene to new heights. The name of the party, "Já que sou do Pandeiro," holds a playful double meaning, referencing the famous Brazilian musician "Jackson do Pandeiro." Embracing the spirit of carnival, the key objective of the brief was to create a colorful and exciting visual identity that would capture the essence of this communal celebration.
To achieve this, I collaborated with the incredibly talented and brilliant illustrator and graphic designer, Dora Castillos. Together, we embarked on a creative journey, crafting over 30 unique standalone illustrations of faces and carnival elements. These illustrations, each distinct in their characteristics, portrayed the diversity and multiplicity that define the carnival experience. The poster and other graphic materials followed a cohesive layout, with text typographically boxed and aligned to spread content around the central "box." This design choice emulated the festive atmosphere of the crowded carnival streets, where performances unfold and people dance and revel together.
Our vision extended to the social media materials, designed not only for the main event but also for the pre-parties leading up to the grand celebration. Through these materials, we sought to build excitement and anticipation, encouraging attendees to come together and embrace the carnival spirit.
The result of our collaboration was a visually captivating and dynamic identity that encapsulated the essence of Lisbon's evolving carnival scene. The celebration of diversity and the joyful spirit of carnival were beautifully represented in every detail of the visual identity.
